The St. Louis Big Band was founded in 2010 by then 19 year old saxophonist Ryan Sheehan and has since established itself as a jazz powerhouse. The key to what they have done is the attention to detail in everything from concert planning to carefully executed performances, there is nothing that hasn't been considered. In 2010 members of the St. Louis Big Band founded the STL Variety Band to offer a "mini" version of a big band but has since branched off to include one of the most substantial repertoires of pop and rock music of any band in the region. Matched only by a handful of the nations top big bands between the St. Louis Big Band and the St. Louis Variety Band more than 50 performances were given last year. With frequent mentions in regional publications critics have said that the St. Louis Big Band is shaping the future of big band music.
