Formed in 2012, the Rosco String Quartet is gaining lots of attention as they perform publicly in their community, privately for special occasions, and at competitive events around the country. Based in Salt Lake City, the Rosco String Quartet is also the official Graduate String Quartet of the University of Utah School of Music. Most recently, the Rosco String Quartet was invited by the Juilliard String Quartet to participate in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, where they will study directly with members of the Juilliard Quartet and perform in Lincoln Center in May 2013. While the Rosco String Quartet is newly established, its members have had an abundance of string quartet training and experience. Together they have received instruction from the renowned Brentano, Fry Street, Elias, and Bennewitz String Quartets, and individually with members of the Takacz, Doric, Biava, and Miro Quartets. With Dr. Hasse Borup as its primary coach, the Rosco String Quartet continues to receive musical instruction at the highest level. Drawing from experience at the Juilliard International Summer Music Academy, Aspen Music Festival, Garth Newel Music Festival, Encore, and National Repertory Orchestra, the Rosco String Quartet is well equipped to produce lively and memorable performances of the finest and most beloved string quartet repertoire. It is a priority for the Rosco String Quartet to play an active role in the community. They recently performed as part of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts Chamber Music Series, recorded a live performance on the â??Highway 89â? program for Classical 89 Radio, and continue to give several concerts each year at educational institutions in the Salt Lake area to promote classical music awareness for young people. Members of the Rosco String Quartet have been involved in several regional orchestras in the United States including the Orchestra at Temple Square, the Loudoun Symphony in Virginia, and the York Symphony in Pennsylvania, and continue to perform in several outreach concerts each year. Rosco String Quartet prides itself on its involvement in the performance of new music and less-known works. Currently performing the Carl Nielsen String Quartet no. 3, the quartet also recently performed Lekeuâ??s Meditation for String Quartet, Blochâ??s Paysages, as well as compositions by Haruhito Miyagi, John Shelby, and other young composers. They are currently working with composer Nathaniel Eschler who is writing a piece specifically for the Rosco String Quartet. The members of the Rosco String Quartet are all pursuing advanced performance degrees at the University of Utah School of Music. They currently hold degrees in music performance from the Peabody Conservatory, the USC Thornton School of Music, the Brigham Young University School of Music, and the Utah State University School of Music. Members of the quartet have won the T. Gordon Parks Collegiate Memorial Competition with the Arapahoe Philharmonic, the Oquirrh Mountain Concerto Competition, and many other competitions.
