Robert Oliver, photographer
First I'm a husband and a father... My wife and I played youth soccer together. I was the Teacher's Aide in her high school photography class. My wife is now 10 years younger than me even though we graduated the same year.
I am a native Californian... born in Pismo Beach and currently in Oceanside.
My son is in the Air Force and my middle school daughter is an absolute gamer on the field and an honor role student in the classroom. My daughter plays too many sports and still has a 4.0 gpa. I spent some time as a high school teacher, but came running back to photography. I love coaching youth sports. I still play baseball. I surf regular foot but skate goofy.
I am young at heart and I have decided that growing up is for old people. I like to tell jokes in stressful situations. A happy marriage starts with two happy individuals. Honesty is the most important trait. I love the mother earth and strive to spend more time with her. I'm a Leo. I thrive under pressure.
I love comedies and I can't stand slasher films.
I can remember all of the words to countless songs. I think Steve Perry needs to come back to Journey. I have a dog and a cat... they keep me sane. My dog and cat are friends. I love communicating by text and hate checking voicemail.
I've been paid to photograph on 5 of the 7 continents... Africa and Antarctica are still on my to do list.
Someday I want to hike from Mexico to Canada with my camera. My wife thinks I should be more romantic. She's been saying that for almost 20 years now. She works too hard.
I love antique shops. I love old cameras and own too many of them. My dream camera won't fit in my living room. My favorite photographers are no longer alive. One of my favorite photographers took pictures of trees (Ansel Adams) and the other one shot the stars (George Hurrell) I am way more creative than my wife, but she has business skills.... together we make a great team. His work has been published in many of the country's most well known publications and has been featured by some of the largest sports companies in their marketing.
Robert is now setting his sights on the wedding and portrait market where he will use his photographic knowledge and skills to create one of a kind works of arts for his clients."I hope to merge my award winning fine art landscape photography with my successful commercial portrait work to really bring out the personality in the subjects I am photographing." he said. "I have been photographing major events my entire career. You don't survive 20 years in the magazine and newspaper world if you can't bring back a great shot every single time. I feel I do my best work under pressure." Robert also plans on offering "old school" photo shoot and wedding packages, perfect for clients who are looking for a retro look and feel. "Using these techniques, I am able to create a look and feel that most photographers are trying to simulate in Photoshop!""I started my career in the darkroom, using all film formats from 35mm to 4x5." he said. "Unlike many of the photographers working today, I don't need the newest equipment to make great photographs. I am as comfortable behind a 1800's era wooden camera as I am behind a 2010 professional digital camera. In fact, some of my most succesful images have been taken on the simplest of photographic equipment."
