Hi, my name is Michelle Files, and welcome to The Curvy Bride. On a warm August day in 2011, I was so excited to go wedding dress shopping with my mom and sister, several bridesmaids, and my fiancé's mom and sisters. We had planned on going to a local bridal shop where I could try on dresses and display how gorgeous they were to my entourage, followed by an afternoon lunch. What I didn't realize was that the local bridal shop did not carry anything larger than a few size 16s, and being a street size 16/18, I was quite embarrassed that I could not even try on one dress. We hurried to the "chain" bridal store, where they in fact had a larger selection of plus sizes (which I had to try on next to significantly slimmer brides out in the open to add to my dismay), but nothing like the quality and material of those in the boutiques. In the end, I wound up at yet another local bridal shop by myself a few weeks later, essentially pulling a dress on and holding it up, unable to see what it would really look like on me until it came in. That's when I realized there's a real need for a boutique that caters to the plus size woman, especially when most bridal shops only carry a handful of plus size dresses, and these dresses run small in the first place! And also private appointment settings, where you don't have to display to the world, only to whomever you'd like. Come experience the difference and the special day you deserve.
